History Of The The M114 was a lightweight, low-profile vehicle designed for command and reconnaissance roles. Similar in concept to the M113, it featured an aluminum hull and weighed approximately 13,100 lbs empty, with a combat weight of about 15,093 lbs. Originally powered by a Chevrolet 283 cubic inch V8 rated at 160 horsepower, the M114 carried a three-man crew and had a top speed of approximately 36 mph. It was amphibious, propelled in water by its tracks, and light enough for transport by cargo aircraft and parachute deployment.
